Builds

Bring your team together to build something that matters. Through BUILD, corporate partners work alongside Baltimore Community ToolBank staff to create useful items like Library Boxes, Fruit Tree Planters, and Picnic Tables. Each project is designed to strengthen teams while creating something tangible for the community.

We handle the details so your team can focus on the experience. Materials are gathered, cut, and prepped in advance, with detailed plans and ToolBank staff on hand to guide the project. No experience is necessary. Sessions run approximately 2.5–3 hours and include an introduction to the ToolBank and the community groups receiving the finished items. Your team gets a hands-on experience working together, and the items you build are given to local community groups at no cost, thanks to your company’s support.

BUILD is a fit for company-wide service days, team retreats, and offsite team-building events. Projects can be part of a larger outing, whether that means sharing a meal in the ToolBank before the build or heading to one of our local breweries for a happy hour afterward.

Some frequently asked questions:

Where does BUILD take place?

These are often done at the ToolBank (1224 Wicomico Street) as volunteers can see the community they are working to support. We potentially can host these projects elsewhere as well. Contact us to discuss your preferred location and project.

Does our team need building experience?

Not at all. We prepare the materials, tools, and plans, with ToolBank staff on hand to guide your team through the project.

How long does a BUILD session take?

Plan for approximately 3 hours. You can also coordinate a meal or a post-build happy hour as part of your outing.

How many people can participate, and what does it cost?

BUILD can accommodate groups of up to 50 people. Packages start at $2,500 for 20 participants, with an additional $500 for each additional five participants planned for. Note this cost covers lumber, hardware, tool usage, staff time, and directly supports the ToolBanks core Tool Lending Program. Contact us to discuss further.

Who receives the items we build?

Finished items are donated at no cost to community organizations in the Baltimore Community ToolBank’s network with credit given to the builders. Your team will learn about the ToolBank and the groups receiving the items as part of the experience.

For groups interested in receiving these items (or to give ideas for items groups may need) please complete our Item Request Form. Please note that we cannot and as such do not guarantee availability of build items.
