Sustainability

Sustainability at the Baltimore Community ToolBank

Our central sustainable feature is our Tool Lending Program. By sharing resources, supplies, and (most importantly) tools we are reducing the consumption footprint across our entire network.

Beyond our day to day sharing, we are proud to incorporate several sustainable features, including:

  • 1,185 square feet of rain gardens serving as an oasis of native plants in our community
    • No to mention numerous native planter beds to soften and beautify our space
  • A weather station (see live data stream below) through the Baltimore Social Environmental Collaborative project focused on equitably capturing climate data (learn more here)
  • An Air Quality station through Breathe Baltimore project with the Environmental Justice Journalism Initiative and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (learn more here)
  • A 3,000 gallon Stormwater Factory that re-purposes 1 million gallons of runoff annually from over 2 acres of rooftop.
    • We use this to pressure wash over 1,300 tools each year!

We also weave sustainable practices through our every action, be it repairing, reusing, repurposing our tools to reducing single use plastic consumption.

We are proudly listed on the State of Maryland's Green Registry
